I have found the world of Facebook and was sucked in deeply. I would visit numerous times a day to see what my friends were doing (like I wasn't seeing them at Boy Scouts, school, and around town (ie Target). Do I really need to know that they have just weeded, or are getting ready to clean the house? The Internet allows us to be voyeurs, to look into other people's lives without having to develop a personal relationship. I miss that.
I was so excited when we had moved to our new house. Our neighbors were just like us, the children were close to the same ages, the mom and I had similar interests. I had visions of me running over, coffee cup in hand, us sitting down, chatting, pouring out our most intimate secrets, and our kids playing happily in the background, running from house to house. Ha! It has been a neighborly relationship, you know, "hi, how are you?" The kids did play, and the first couple of years, they did run from house to house, but their mom was so busy with work, that there was no time for coffee and heart to hearts. I wish I could find a neighbor that had time to develop a friendship, something that scratched the surface, where you became true friends.
I’m still here….
